Group D, this Group has been described as the group of death, within it are the current Premier League Champions Manchester City, they have a tough ride, Real Madrid, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund, are all elite teams. This won’t be a trouble free journey to the Champions League Final at Wembley, the home of football, for any of the teams in this Group.
The first games in this group will include Manchester City v Real Madrid in a star studded line up that takes place on Tuesday 18th September in Spain. The game is a sell out, with not a spare seat to be had at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. With four National Champions in the group, the current English, Spanish, German and Dutch Champions, it can only be described as a mouth watering, glittering array of stars.
Jose Mourinho, the current Real Madrid Manager, is the master planner, you know he will provide you with the unexpected, so, will Luka Modric make the team? and will Ronaldo partner Benzema?, you can be sure Jose will not do what Manchester City expect him too. Real have a proud record in this competition having reached the Semi Finals for the past two seasons, you can be sure their intention will be to progress from this group.
Manchester City on the other hand are relative newcomers to the competition, they have only recently had a team of the quality that can enter the Champions League. Last season they failed to impress, so to that end, they have strengthened their squad with five new summer signings, will it pay off and help them to progress?, only time will tell.
Just to ensure you have the max amount of excitement, the Westfalenstadion in Germany will host the current German champions Borussia Dortmund, they are playing the Dutch masters Ajax, this feast of ‘footie’ should have fans a bit over excited and this being football you can expect some twist and turns, at the end of this night you can be sure we will have a much better idea which of the teams is likely to move on from this group.
